1. Clean up the house and property both inside and outside
2. Cut the lawn, trim the hedges and make the overall curb appeal light and attractive
3. Ensure the entire house is clean but pay special attention and focus on the following three interior areas
• Front entrance – this is first area that people will see when they enter the house. 
• Remove old mats or distracting wall hangings or plants.  Make the front entrance inviting and
• Remove family portraits, personal crafts, children’s drawings or other items that personalize the house
• Kitchen – Keep the counters completely clean and free of pots and pans.  Ensure the sink is clear of dishes
• Bathroom – Once again make sure the bathroom facilities are clean and free of stains or smells.  Remove any old towels or rags hanging on the rack and place a new set
4. Use a dampened cloth with a few drops of dish washing detergent on it to clean the walls, trim and baseboard.  If the house has not been painted in a while then it would help to do a quick paint touch-up on all the trim with some fresh paint.  Walls that are painted in bright colors are quite personal and most times delay the selling of a house.  You should invest in repainting walls in a neutral color.
5. If the light fixtures are old or dated then a small investment is all that’s needed to update them with standard up-do-date fixtures.  Find out what up-to-date fixtures look like by going to a builder’s open house and take note of what kind of light fixtures, door handles, and wall plates are in style. 
6. Go through the house and remove general clutter.  Clear out any garbage or old and unused items from the basement.
